A white and radiant smile can create an excellent first impression, and many Americans invest in receiving teeth whitening procedures. Teeth whitening is an excellent and simple method to achieve the smile you want. However, if you don’t take proper care of your smile following a whitening procedure, you could undo all of your results.
Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to help you keep your new radiant smile for as long as possible, and we are happy to discuss these steps, as well as what you should avoid.
First, one of the many culprits of a dull or stained smile is the drinks you consume, and it can cause major problems. Drinks that cause tooth stains include coffee, red wine, citrus juices (orange, grapefruit, etc.), and colas. If you don’t want to go without these drinks, you can change the way you consume them, such as reducing your intake and using a straw.
One of the most important steps to keep your smile white is to avoid smoking, and some pigmented foods can also cause staining. We encourage you to avoid hard candies, particularly varieties that change the color of your mouth or your tongue; cherries; beets; and blueberries. After each meal, or at least twice a day, remember to thoroughly brush your teeth.
